b'Relocating the Army Ordnance SchoolThis spate of seismic activity resulted in over a thousand injuries and fatalities and caused damage to more than 3,000 structures. The Army Ord-nance school was among those severely affected, with most buildings ren-dered inoperable. Father embarked on a mission to locate a new site for the school again. His search concluded successfully with the discovery of an ideal spot on Xinsheng South Road () in Taipei City, setting the stage for a fresh beginning. In the fall of 1952, Father led the teachers and students at the Army Ordnance school to Taipei, though my mother, grandmother, and siblings remained behind until 1955. Fortunately, military aircraft were available during this time and enabled my father to commute by air, which allowed for regular visits home. Without this option, he would have been forced to nav-igate the treacherously narrow Suhua Highway, a route etched into moun-tain cliffs, to travel between Taipei and Hualiena rigorous and perilous trip that would take around five hours each way.30'
