b'Father possessed an insatiable passion for acquiring knowledge and al-ways looked towards the future. While he occasionally shared intriguing sto-ries from his childhood, he seldom dwelled on the past. It is often presumed that veterans tend to recount their heroic wartime achievements, but my father rarely discussed such matters. As a devout Buddhist with a gentle temperament, he likely did not cherish memories of the brutalities of war.My fathers character and demeanor were shaped by his values and beliefs, leading to a humble and forward-looking perspective. He taught us through his actions the importance of embracing the present moment and seeking personal growth rather than dwelling on past achievements or hardships.Despite being born into a military family, my father was, in fact, a rather sentimental and emotional person. On the other hand, my mother, skilled in crafts, brought rationality and composure to our family dynamics. Father and Mother enjoyed a remarkably harmonious relationship, and their con-trasting personalities complemented each other perfectly.Embracing New HorizonsAfter retiring in 1985, Father and Mother chose to live in the United States to be close to most of their children. While many people of their generation faced difficulties adapting to life in the United States with their children due to cultural differences, particularly among males, my father was not one of them. With multiple training and studying experiences in the United States, he developed a deep appreciation for American culture and easily embraced the American way of life. His positive experiences and seamless integration played a significant role in his encouragement for us to pursue education and a life in the United States. Moreover, his earlier dedication to serving the country limited the time he could spend with his family. However, retirement provided him with the opportunity to cherish the joys of familial bonds with his children and grand-children, which he held dear to his heart.62'
